Maya is a Master Somatic Movement Educator specializing in pain management, embodiment, and trauma healing. She is a certified Clinical Hanna Somatic Educator and an Equine Hanna Somatic Educator. Maya is a graduate of The Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training and has had the privilege of being mentored by somatic pioneer Dr. Eleanor Criswell Hanna for over 20 years. Maya is the co-founder of Living Somatics, dedicated to equipping people to achieve somatic freedom by offering international classes, workshops, and trainings. Maya brought Hanna Somatics to Sweden and, together with her colleague Brian Siddhartha Ingle, to the Russian-speaking countries. Maya is dedicated to making somatic disciplines available globally, and as part of this mission, she co-hosted the first three virtual Somatic Movement Summits, 2020-2022.


For over 25 years Maya has traveled the world studying somatic movement and transformational methods like Hanna Somatics, the Feldenkrais Method®, Body Mind Centering®, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, Qi-gong, martial arts, several styles of awareness-based yoga, dance, meditation, energy healing work, and Native American Tracking. Maya holds a bachelor’s degree in Education focusing on health promotion, education, and kinesthetic learning and has additional university studies in physiotherapy. 

Maya is a registered professional member (MSME) of the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA). She is currently serving her fourth year as a Board of Director of ISMETA, sharing her skillset to fuel ISMETA’s vision to grow the somatic movement profession and transform the world through conscious movement.

Based in Sweden, Maya consults clients and develops and leads somatic practitioner trainings and workshops, both in-person and online. Additionally, she co-facilitates somatically informed self-leadership programs for women with her sister Jahanavi Schriefer. Maya is passionate about supporting her clients and students in developing somatic skills for self-connection, resilience, lasting transformation, and living their somatic potential.
